Why is “Olivia’s Story” set during WWII?

David L Dahl Blog, My General Musings 0 0

The whine ochurchillf planes interrupted Fritz’s ghost story. In the distance, they heard the air raid sirens, followed by the thunder of bombs.

“Quick, into the basement,” Olivia cried. She gathered the terrified children and headed to the cellar. The servants ran screaming into the woods. In the basement, Fritz pushed aside the secret panel, and they tumbled into the hidden office.

– Olivia’s Story: Protector of the Realm

World War II – the world at war, millions locked in brutal combat, entire economies mobilized to produce war material, democratic societies allied to overcome evil tyrants, countless acts of individual sacrifice and bravery. From this rich background, springs thousands of tales – heroic combat, unspeakable evil, astonishing survival, personal sacrifice, epic journeys, technological innovation, romance, and comedy.

Today the war seems a nightmarish fantasy, a titanic battle between the forces of good and evil – the perfect setting for Olivia’s Story. It provides a reason for Olivia to move to New York, where she meets Vivian and Mike and begins her journey.

Could it be possible that supernatural forces are afoot?  From that simple premise, Olivia’s Story unfolds; spinning around the dark secrets of the Nazi war machine, Olivia strives to capture the evil Jinn and save the world. World War II, its turmoil, conflict and social upheaval make Olivia’s Story possible.

I wrote this as a fun adventure story. Should it spark an interest in learning more about the war all the better.

“Those were my orders, young lad.” A familiar voice echoed through the open door. A short, squat man wearing a derby and smoking a cigar slowly climbed into the plane.

Mike and Bob snapped to attention. “M—Mr. P—Prime Minister, welcome to my airplane,” Bob stuttered.

“No, Mr. Layton, it is I who welcome you to London.” With that, Winston Churchill took Olivia’s hand in his and gallantly kissed it.
