It was a beautiful day.
A perfect day to play.
The air was warm, the sun was bright.
We ran outside our spirits light.
Indeed a perfect day – well,
a perfect day ‘til sister fell.
The treehouse meant no harm.
Yet Caroline fell upon her arm.
Was she hurt? Dad couldn’t tell
So, he ran to where she fell.
“Caroline has a broken arm!”
then he shouted with alarm.
The ER’s near, about a block
So, Dad decided to take a walk
He scooped her up, and as he strode,
he gently cradled his precious load.
Caroline sobbed, “I want to play.”
Mom replied, “another day.”
“But Mom” was Caroline’s retort.
“You said that we could build a fort.”
“We’ll build a fort, you know we will.
But first, we have to let you heal.”
The ER Nurses were all so nice,
especially one who brought the ice.
While the nurses did this and that
Dad held his princess on his lap.
A shot of medicine was the charm
and then an x-ray of her arm.
Caroline’s world began to whirl
And everything became a twirl.
A trip to Indy, and in a flash
appeared three pins and a cast.
The Dr. said “a month or two,
and she will be good as new.”
Then home she came, in a blink,
proudly sporting a cast that’s pink.
