Who is Your Favorite Fictional Couple?

David L Dahl Blog, My General Musings 0 0

There I was, absently-mindedly perusing social media, and checking my email. Suddenly one caught my eye. It asked a simple question: Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why? The question from Goodreads seemed straight forward, so I began to write. This was too easy, drill sergeant. My favorite fictional couple? Olivia and Mike, of course (Olivia’s Story: Protector of the Realm). Why are they my favorite? To paraphrase John Lennon – Love is what happens while you are busy…..

Now for the News!

David L Dahl Blog, Olivia's Story News and Events 0 0

The Midwest Book Review gave Olivia’s Story: Protector of the Realm an excellent review. It appears in the December 2016 Midwest Book Review Small Press Bookwatch (click the Fantasy/SciFi Shelf, it is the second review listed). “Olivia’s Story: Protector of the Realm is an original, deftly crafted and consistently compelling historical fantasy novel by David Dahl. While very highly recommended for community library Fantasy Fiction collections, it should be noted for the personal reading lists of fantasy fans that “Olivia’s…..

An Ode to Olde Captain Dane

David L Dahl Blog, My General Musings 1 0

Standing tall at the tiller was Olde Captain Dane. The dapper young fellow carried only a cane. A signal from Dane and the anchor was lowered. Nodding approval, “To the boats,” he ordered. The Reliant had an obedient crew. Jumping as one, each knew what to do. Boarding the boats, they rowed with a purpose. Oars sliced the water, dotting foam on the surface. The trip to the shore was but a short reach. Soon, with whistle and holler, they…..

The Witch In The Graveyard

David L Dahl Blog, My General Musings 0 0

Wailing lonesomely through the trees, the wind rustled the dry leaves. Dark clouds drifted over the full moon. Each time they passed we plunged into total darkness. Rubbing my cold hands, I hurried after my friend. “We should be getting home,” I pleaded. Danny didn’t answer – he kept walking. “Come on, let’s go home,” I tried again. “I have all the candy I want, and I’m tired of wearing this old mask.” “Scaredy-cat,” Dan snapped. “We still have Grant…..

The Pasture Oak – A Cautionary Tale

David L Dahl Blog, My General Musings 0 0

Once upon a long time ago, a lone oak tree stood in a large pasture.  Towering over the grass and weeds the tree grew strong, producing vast quantities of acorns. A colony of squirrels feasted on the acorns, making the tree their home. They lacked for nothing and in return began to tend to the tree. With patience and care, these squirrels farmed their tree, steadily increasing its yield. Every year, they produced more acorns than they could use, and…..

Why is “Olivia’s Story” set during WWII?

David L Dahl Blog, My General Musings 0 0

The whine of planes interrupted Fritz’s ghost story. In the distance, they heard the air raid sirens, followed by the thunder of bombs. “Quick, into the basement,” Olivia cried. She gathered the terrified children and headed to the cellar. The servants ran screaming into the woods. In the basement, Fritz pushed aside the secret panel, and they tumbled into the hidden office. – Olivia’s Story: Protector of the Realm World War II – the world at war, millions locked in…..
